Claudeforce: the CRM is now the spoke not the hub
A few weeks ago, Salesforce and Anthropic announced Claudeforce, their partnership which puts Salesforce data inside of Claude. If you look past the product, and the portmanteau, you'll see that Salesforce is losing its own airtime. As sellers stop logging in and start talking to Claude instead, the CRM has shifted from the hub to the data running underneath.
Salesforce and Anthropic have been working together for some time now. In October 2025 Claude became a "preferred model" for regulated industries inside Salesforce’s Agentforce. Salesforce also started using Anthropic's Claude Code across its engineering teams. At the same time, Anthropic started using Slack for its own internal work.
Through the latest partnership, customer data traditionally stored in Salesforce can now be accessed in Claude. Instead of logging into Salesforce and navigating through different pages, a user can make a direct request to Claude, like "tell me which deals I'm going to lose.”
Claude connects to Salesforce through Model Context Protocol, a standard that lets Claude read and act on data without a custom-built integration, which is then combined with Claude's agentic reasoning.
In Marc Benioff’s own words, “the UI is the AI", where Salesforce has become the layer beneath Claude, and Claude has become the user interface on top. But Claude is also redefining what it means to be an interface by deciding what a seller needs to know and how they should act.
For the past 25 years, Salesforce has been the "hub", but now it won't be Salesforce you go to, it'll be your AI. That might be Claude, or ChatGPT, or Copilot, which is already connected to your email, calendar, and meeting notes. Your day might have started by opening five different apps, but now it starts by opening a chat window and asking a question. The AI is the thing that checks those apps, while Salesforce has become a spoke.
There's a lesson here to companies that sell software, which is, if you don't make it easy for your users or their agents to reach your data through AI, people will stop visiting your website or app.
We're seeing this acknowledged across the enterprise CRM ecosystem:
- HubSpot officially connects to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and Copilot.
- Microsoft makes Copilot. Even though it's one of OpenAI's biggest backers, some Copilot features now use Claude alongside OpenAI's models.
- Zoho has built its own AI model in-house, but they also let customers plug in Claude or ChatGPT.
Major businesses are acting to make sure AI can plug into their products. The company that owns the CRM still holds the data, enforces the rules about who's allowed to see what, and keeps it secure, but it's no longer the face.
Beneath the hype, there is a truth that Salesforce has acknowledged. The value was always in the data: who your customers are, what they’ve bought, what they’re about to buy next, the interface was just where you went to get it.
Few software companies have spent as much time and money making sure people see them, recognise them, and feel something about them as Salesforce.
Salesforce, and other CRMs, will lean harder to places they still get in front of their customers directly. Bigger events, more community-building, and more of their own branding in the AI experience itself, with “Claudeforce” setting that trend.
