Claude Enterprise for UK organisations

Choose Claude Enterprise when the work is long, careful and document-heavy (contracts, policies, analysis, board papers), when you want one plan covering chat, Claude Cowork and Claude Code, and when you plan to build agents on Anthropic's platform.

ChatGPT Enterprise suits organisations where UK storage at rest for the everyday app is a hard requirement, or where image and video generation matter to the teams using it. Where functions have different needs, running both under one governance model is a legitimate answer.

Claude Team runs from 2 to 150 seats: standard seats at $20 per seat per month billed annually ($25 monthly), and premium seats for heavy users at $100 ($125 monthly). Above 150 seats, Anthropic moves you to Claude Enterprise, which is priced differently: a seat fee billed annually, plus usage at standard API rates. Cost now rises with use.

That change is why organisations stall below 150 seats, running more than one Team plan, expensing personal Max accounts, or giving Claude to one group and another tool to everyone else. It keeps the invoice predictable, but leaves you on the plan with the fewest cost controls and no organisation-wide view of spend or data.

Enterprise comes in two forms. Self-serve buys usage upfront as credits, and usage stops when they run out. Sales-assisted is billed monthly in arrears, with no ceiling unless you set one. Either way, set three things on day one: an organisation-wide spend limit, user groups that mirror your cost centres, and a sensible default model, so everyday work doesn't run on the most expensive one.

Claude Enterprise meets the security bar regulated UK organisations expect: SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, a compliance API, and no training on your data by default.

The question to settle early is residency. Claude workspaces run in the US. For UK or EU residency, Anthropic serves Claude models through Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry, where you choose the region. That route suits the agents and applications you build; it does not cover the Claude app your employees use day to day.

Before rollout, agree with your DPO which data classes Claude is allowed to process, and check the transfer terms in Anthropic's data processing agreement against UK GDPR.

The old advice that Microsoft organisations should choose ChatGPT no longer holds. Anthropic's Microsoft 365 connector is available on every Claude plan, and since July 2026 it can act as well as read: sending email, managing calendars, creating and updating files in OneDrive and SharePoint, and sending Teams messages. Microsoft also offers Claude models inside Microsoft Copilot, and its Copilot Cowork agent was built with Anthropic.

These are two routes with different terms. The connector needs one-time consent from an Entra Global Administrator, and content Claude reads through it is processed by Anthropic under your Anthropic agreement, so treat it like any other third-party app with Microsoft Graph permissions. Claude models inside Microsoft Copilot run under Microsoft's terms instead, but they are excluded from the EU Data Boundary and are off by default for UK tenants until an administrator opts in.

In practice, use Copilot for everyday productivity inside the Office apps, and Claude for deeper reasoning and agentic work.

Start with a four-week pilot using real work from two or three functions, not a sandbox. Pick a first use case with a measurable business outcome, so the pilot answers a question the board cares about.

Then run the rollout as a programme rather than a licence deployment: a roadmap tied to outcomes, governance reported like any other IT programme, and a phased rollout function by function. A first agent or workflow, scoped to one outcome, goes live in six to eight weeks.

The value gap opens after go-live, when agents are live and people carry on working the old way. Plan communications, training and a network of internal Claude Guides from day one, and measure adoption from launch day.

Governance is a harder question than capability: who can build an agent, which systems it can reach, and who owns it once it is live. Decide that before the first agent ships.
